Synchronising the route sequence in Opter Driver and dispatch
Applies to Opter Driver for iOS and Opter Driver Labs for Android as of version 2.4.22.
(For Opter Driver (classic) for Android, see Synchronising the route sequence in Opter Driver and dispatch.)

The shipments in Opter Driver can be given an order number in two different ways:
-
The traffic controller has done a route optimisation in Opter.
-
The driver has manually assigned shipment numbers in Opter Driver.
You choose whether or not you want the route sequence from Opter Driver to be transferred to the dispatch centre.
If the route sequence from Opter Driver is transferred to the dispatch, you can calculate the arrival time for each address based on the driver's route sequence. The calculated times can then be displayed in the app. This way, the driver can get estimated times for the route sequence he creates in Opter Driver.
Instructions for drivers are available at Manually sort the route sequence in Opter Driver.
Step 1: Setting whether the route sequence may be changed in Opter Driver
Mobile data settings SortPermission works for Opter Driver for iOS and Opter Driver Labs for Android as of version 2.4.21.
Use the Mobile data settings SortPermission to choose whether or not to allow drivers to sort the job list. Proceed as follows:
-
In Opter, click on Settings > Mobile data > Settings mobile data.
-
Click on an empty row in the Name column and then on the down arrow in the row being added.
-
Select SortPermission from the list.
-
Enter “true” or “false” in the Value column as follows:
-
”True” (default): If you want drivers to be able to sort the shipment list in Opter Driver, for example, give the shipments new driving order numbers.
The menu items Sort and Manual route sequence are displayed.
-
“False”: If you don't want drivers to be able to sort the job list in Opter Driver.
The menu items Sort and Manual route sequence are not displayed. Drivers cannot assign new order numbers to shipments.
-
-
Click on Save.
Users who are logged in to the app when the changes are saved in Opter must log out and then log back in to the app to see the changes.
For more information, see Mobile data settings (window).
Step 2: Setting whether the route sequence from Opter Driver should update the route sequence in dispatch
Mobile data settings SaveSortPermission works for Opter Driver for iOS and Opter Driver Labs for Android as of version 2.4.22.
Use the Mobile data settings SaveSortPermission to select whether or not the route sequence from the Opter Driver app is transferred to the dispatch. Proceed as follows:
-
In Opter, click on Settings > Mobile data > Settings mobile data.
-
Click on an empty row in the Name column and then on the down arrow in the row being added.
-
Select SaveSortPermission from the list.
-
Enter “true” or “false” in the Value column as follows:
-
“True”: If you want the route sequence from the Opter Driver app to be transferred to the dispatch centre.
The route sequence is transferred to the dispatch when the driver presses Save manual route sequence, after manually giving the shipment a route sequence number in Opter Driver.
If drivers are to be able to manually assign shipment numbers in Opter Driver, SortPermission must be set to "true" (default). (See Step 1: Set whether the route sequence may be changed in Opter Driver above.
-
”False” (default): If you do not want the route sequence from the Opter Driver app to be transferred to the dispatch centre.
-
-
Click on Save.
Users who are logged in to the app when the changes are saved in Opter must log out and then log back in to the app to see the changes.
For more information, see Mobile data settings (window).
Step 3: Approving the route sequence
There are two items in the Shipment Change Elements window that control approval of the route sequence: Route sequence - from and Route sequence - to. By default, they do not require approval, as there are many types of sorting in the app that would then need to be approved in dispatch.
Check that the settings for approving changes are as you want them. Proceed as follows:
-
In Opter, click on Settings > Mobile data > Settings mobile data.
-
Please check your settings for App.ApproveChanges. (For more information, see Setting how changes made in Opter Driver are approved.)
-
If App.ApproveChanges has been set to "false", changes never have to be approved in dispatch, regardless of the settings made elsewhere.
If App.ApproveChanges = "false", proceed to Step 4: Set up automatic calculation of ETA for vehicles and drivers below.
-
If you have set App.ApproveChanges to "true", i.e. changes must be authorised in dispatch, you can make exceptions for, for example, mission changes, which then do not have to be authorised in dispatch.
If App.ApproveChanges = "true", proceed to step 3.
-
-
In Opter, click on Settings > Mobile data > Shipment Change Elements.
-
Select Route sequence - from from the list on the left. Untick the checkbox Require Approval, if it is checked.
-
Select Route sequence - to from the list on the left. Untick the checkbox Require Approval, if it is checked.
-
Click on
to save all changes.
Selecting Require Approval for only one of the options (Route sequence - from and Route sequence - to) may lead to unexpected results.
Step 4: Set automatic calculation of ETA for vehicle and driver
To be able to calculate times in dispatch and send them to Opter Driver without changing the route sequence, select Allow only automatic calculation of arrival time on the Details tab in the Employees and Vehicles registries.
If you use automatic route optimisation, you cannot have the Allow automatic calculation of route sequence and arrival time checkbox selected in the Employees and Vehicles registers as the driver's manually entered route sequence will then be changed by the automatic route optimisation.
If only a temporary sorting is done in the app, you can pause the automatic route optimisation. For more information, see Automatic route optimisation.
Step 5: Sort the shipments in Opter Driver
Instructions for drivers on how to manually change the route sequence in the Opter Driver mission list are available at Manually sort the route sequence in Opter Driver.
(If your drivers are using Opter Driver (classic) for Android, instructions are available at Sorting shipments in Opter Driver for Android.)
Step 6: Calculate the arrival times for the driver's route sequence
Once the driver has sorted the shipments in Opter Driver, you can select the shipments in dispatch and press F9. The Route optimisation window opens. Click on Calculate times (retain route sequence). Times are calculated and can be displayed in Opter Driver without changing the route sequence.
