Changing a VAT rate

If a statutory VAT rate changes, it must also be updated in Opter.

Preparing for the VAT rate change

Note:

In order to ensure the correct VAT rate on supplier bills, we recommend creating the supplier bills for the period up to the date when the new VAT rate takes effect before changing the VAT rate in Opter.

(For more information, see How Opter chooses the VAT rate on credits).

Changing the VAT rate

It is not possible to schedule the change in the VAT rate for a future point in time. It is only possible to change the VAT rate from the current date or from a date in the past.

Proceed as follows after the new VAT rate has come into force:

  1. Click on Economy > VAT rates and create the new VAT rate (for example “VAT 25.5%”) as described in the instructions above.

  2. Select the VAT rate that is to be updated/replaced (for example “VAT 24%”) in the VAT rates window and

    click on Change VAT rate.

In the Change VAT rate window, the VAT rate that is to be updated/replaced is displayed in the From VAT drop-down list (for example “VAT 24%”).

  3. Select the new VAT rate (for example “VAT 25.5%”) in the To VAT drop-down list.

  4. Choose the date from which the new VAT rate is to apply by manually entering the date in the From date field or by clicking on the calendar and selecting the date.

    Note:

It is not possible to schedule the change for a future point in time. It is only possible to change the VAT rate from the current date or from a date in the past.

  5. Click on Accept.

The following applies when you have changed a VAT rate:

    • All existing unbilled orders with an order date on or after the date you selected in the From date field have now automatically been assigned the new VAT rate (for example 25.5%).

      Note:

If there are a lot of such orders, it can take a while for the system to recalculate the prices of all the orders to which the new VAT rate has been applied.

    • Orders with an order date before From date will not change, as they keep the previous VAT rate (for example 24%).

    • All new orders that are registered will use the new VAT rate (for example 25.5%). If you want to register a new order with the previous VAT rate, manually select the previous VAT rate (for example 24%) in the VAT rate drop-down list in the Price section of the order reception.

    • If an invoice with the previous VAT rate (for example 24%) is credited, the correction invoice will have the same VAT rate (for example 24%). It works the same way if an order is credited, or if an item on an order is credited.

Note:

Check that the new VAT rate is also available in your accounting system and applies from the correct date there.

If you have translated Opter's VAT codes, it is good to check that the VAT codes are still translated correctly. For example, if you export invoices to Netvisor (API), see Invoice export to Netvisor (API).
