Weight correction
There is a weight correction feature in Opter, which is a special way of changing the weight of a package. The purpose is to be able to adjust the price upwards if the total measured weights etc. exceed what was specified at the time of ordering, but not to adjust the price downwards if the measured weights are lower.
Weight correction does not update the weight of the order and does not recalculate the price if the price is lower than the one initially specified. If the weight is corrected upwards, the weight of the order is updated and the price is recalculated.
The weight correction can automatically add a surcharge if the initially specified weight or volume of the order is less than the sum of the weights or dimensions of the package rows measured.
It is possible to choose whether to use weight correction when making changes from Opter Terminal or to save the changes as usual. If they are saved as usual, the price can be changed regardless of whether the change increases or decreases the price.
Changes imported via EDI use weight correction if the message type is PACKAGEWEIGHTCORRECTION.
Adding an extra to the order in the case of a weight correction
You can choose whether to add a surcharge for upward weight corrections. You can also choose whether or not to use weight correction for weight changes made in Opter Terminal.
-
Click on Settings > Offices and go to the Weight/Distance tab.
-
Use the Extra for weight correction drop-down list under Weight factors to select whether or not to add a surcharge.
If a surcharge is selected, the weight correction will automatically add the surcharge if the initially specified weight or volume of the order is less than the sum of the weights or dimensions of the package rows measured. A maximum of one weight correction extra per order is added.
Add or change extras in the Extras types window. The price of the extra is indicated in the price list.
Using weight correction when the weight is changed in Opter Terminal
Go to the Scanning tab in the office settings and select or deselect the Use the Weight Correction function if the weight is changed in Opter Terminal checkbox as follows:
: The weight and price of the order are only updated in the case of an upward weight correction.
: The weight and price of the order are always updated, regardless of whether the weight correction is an upward or downward one.
Click on to save all changes.
When you scan a package in Opter Terminal, the dimensions of the package are displayed in the app. The dimensions can be changed by default, but it is possible to set them so that they cannot be changed. Configure the settings as required or check that you have set it up the way you want it. For more information, seeChanging package dimensions in Opter Terminal.
Checking the weight correction settings
Create a test order and check that the settings are as you intended. For example, you can check the settings by testing them using the examples below.
You can also test by changing the weight or dimensions of the packages in Opter Terminal, and checking that the weight of the order is updated and the price is recalculated in the scenarios you have in mind.
Example
Weight correction with three packages
One order has three packages. 100 kg is indicated as the weight on the order itself.
-
Weight correction on package no. 1 indicates that it weighs 50 kg. Nothing else happens, the weight on the order is still 100 kg.
-
Weight correction on package no. 2 indicates that it weighs 60 kg. Now the weight/volume/load metres initially specified on the order are deleted, and the order has an estimated weight of 110 kg. The price is recalculated and any surcharge is added. (The surcharge is added if you have selected it in the Extra for weight correction drop-down list in the office settings).
-
Weight correction on package no. 3 indicates that it weighs 20 kg. The calculated weight of the order is updated and the price is recalculated, but no new surcharge is added as there is always a maximum of one such surcharge per order.
Weight correction of packages without dimensions
An order has one package. The package has no dimensions specified, but the package type has dimensions that are then used automatically. The dimensions of the package type are 1.2 m * 2.2 m * 1.0 m (length * width * height), resulting in a volume of 2.64 cubic metres. The volume of the order is 2.64 cubic metres and the price is calculated based on this volume.
-
The volume of the package is measured and corrected to 2.0 cubic metres. Nothing happens, because 2.0 cubic metres is less than the previous volume of 2.64 cubic metres. The price of the order does not change.
-
The volume of the package is measured again and corrected to 2.78 cubic metres. Now the initially specified volume of the order is deleted, and the new volume is used to produce a new weight calculation. The price is recalculated and any surcharge is added. (A surcharge is added if you have selected it in the Extra for weight correction drop-down list in the office settings).
