Products

A product is a description of what is to be transported, and is used to price orders. The products are listed on the package rows. You can enter several different products on the same order and the number of units of each product. The transport price can then be based on that quantity. Often, the name of the product corresponds to the name of the item itself (e.g “gravel”), which makes it easy for the customer to select the right product.

Package type is closely related to the product but describes how the goods are packed on the vehicle (e.g. “large container”), not necessarily what the goods consist of. Package types are created in the same way and in the same window as products, and it is possible to price orders with both products and package types.

There are two ways to choose whether a product should be treated as a product or a package type:

If a product is used both as a product and as a package type, and is specified as a package type on one or more package rows, the number of these package rows is automatically added up and shown as a calculated value (italics) under Products on the order. It is also possible to enter a number for the product manually under Products.

The difference between products and services is that a service is a description of how the transport is to be carried out (for example, “express”), whereas products, as mentioned, describe what is being transported.

Conditions

The following settings must be configured for the order to be automatically priced via the products on the package rows (or manually under Products):

How the price of the product is calculated

If the quantity of the product is entered manually on the order, in the Products box, the pricing weight (or volume, load metres or any other dimension converted into a pricing weight) is taken from the Products registry. If the product quantity comes from package rows, the pricing weight is taken from the dimensions of the package rows themselves.

The weight calculation takes into account the standard price weight of the product if the quantity has been entered manually on the order. If the products come from the package rows instead, the standard price weight of the product is not included in the pricing weight of the order.

When package rows are created automatically, the product specified by default in the Products window is used, if it is available as a package type on the order (according to the settings on the Services tab in the price list).
