Ferries (window)

In this window, add ferry routes and enter Departure time, Arrival time and Schedule. On the Distance tab, link the ferry lines in Opter to the ferry lines in PTV to get the correct distance. For more information about ferry lines, see Ferry lines.

The window’s tabs

General

Function	Description
Name	For example “STO-HEL” in order to show the direction of the ferry, Stockholm to Helsinki.
Information	Free text field for internal notes. The description is not displayed anywhere else but here.Maximum 50 characters.
From terminal To terminal	If the choice has been made to define a ferry route as two ports (terminals) and the distance between them, choose the terminals between which the ferry runs. See Automatically split shipments at terminals below. If the ferry line has been defined as the shipments placed on the route, it is not necessary to specify any terminals.
Automatically split shipments at terminals	Automatically split shipments at terminals is used to set how a ferry is defined in Opter. : The ferry is defined as two terminals (ports) and the distance between them. (default): The ferry is defined as the shipments placed on the route.
Subcontractor	The shipping company the ferry is associated with. If the shipping company is not in the list, click on and add it.

Times

Function	Description
Departure time Arrival time	Enter the departure and arrival time of the ferry. If Automatically split shipments at terminals has been selected, these times will be the start and end times for the ferry shipment. Note: If the ferry departs on different days such as weekdays and weekends, two identical ferry lines, with different departure times, must be created.
Plus days	If the ferry’s departure and arrival times are not on the same date, enter the number of days it will take. Example: if the departure time is 1 pm on 22 December 2022 and the arrival time is 5 pm on 24 December 2022, enter 2 plus days.
Schedule	Opens the Schedule window in which the days on which the ferry operates are entered. For more information, see Schedule, windows (ferry lines). It is mandatory to create a schedule for the ferry line.

Departure time

Arrival time

Enter the departure and arrival time of the ferry. If Automatically split shipments at terminals has been selected, these times will be the start and end times for the ferry shipment.

Note:

If the ferry departs on different days such as weekdays and weekends, two identical ferry lines, with different departure times, must be created.

Plus days

If the ferry’s departure and arrival times are not on the same date, enter the number of days it will take.

Example: if the departure time is 1 pm on 22 December 2022 and the arrival time is 5 pm on 24 December 2022, enter 2 plus days.

Schedule

Opens the Schedule window in which the days on which the ferry operates are entered. For more information, see Schedule, windows (ferry lines).

It is mandatory to create a schedule for the ferry line.

Distance

In this tab, link the ferry lines in Opter with the ferry lines in PTV to get the correct distance. For more information, see PTV Map&Guide. For instructions, see Adding a ferry consisting of two terminals and the distance between them and Adding a ferry consisting only of the shipments that are placed on the route.

Function	Description
PTV name	The field will be automatically filled in with the information from PTV once you have searched for ferry routes and clicked on the Select ferry button.
PTV ID	The field will be automatically filled in with the information from PTV once you have searched for ferry routes and clicked on the Select ferry button.
The Map box	You can search for ferry lines in PTV by clicking on one of the ferry line's ports or terminals on the map. The search result is displayed in the Result box. You can use the wheel on your mouse to zoom in and out of the map.
The Search box Street/No. Postcode / City Country	You can search for ferry lines in PTV by entering the address of one of the ferry line terminals. The search result is displayed in the Result box.
The Result box	The search result from the map or address is displayed in the Result box. If there are ferry routes in PTV that match your search, they will be displayed like this "Göteborg-Frederikshavn". In the Result box, click on the ferry line that matches your ferry line (ferry) that you have selected in the list on the far left of the Ferries window.
Squires Select ferry	Click on the button to select the ferry route you have ticked in the Result box above. The fields PTV name and PTV ID are then automatically filled in with the information from the PTV. Click on to save all changes.
