Route optimisation of ferry missions

If you are route optimising orders that include ferry lines, you can specify which missions should run before and after the ferry lines in the Route optimization window, so that there are no inefficient routes back and forth across the water when calculating the order of travel. The ferry mission (departure and arrival address) is always kept together, and the missions before and after the ferry line are optimised separately.

Step 1: Allocate assignments and route optimise the resource

Allocate the assignments to resources and ferries as usual in the traffic management. Then open the Route optimization window by right-clicking on the resource or pressing F9.

When you optimise the route of a resource that has ferry missions allocated to it, the checkbox Optimise the shipments before and after the ferry line separately appears. Please tick it. The ferry assignment is marked in green and the order of the assignments before and after the ferry line will be calculated separately.

For more information on how to allocate assignments on ferries, see Using ferries in dispatch.

Step 2: Decide which missions will be before and after the ferry line

Once you have selected Optimise the shipments before and after the ferry line separately, you can specify the missions to be carried out before and after the ferry mission by moving the missions in the address list. There are four ways to move missions, but perhaps the easiest is to mark them on the map, as the missions to be performed before and after the ferry are geographically divided. In the address list it can be difficult to find all address lines.

Step 3: Optimising the route

Click on Calculate route sequence and the pre- and post-ferry missions will be optimised separately, keeping the whole ferry mission (departure and arrival address) together.
