Positioning with Guard Systems tracking transmitters

It is possible to use Guard Systems tracking transmitters from GSGroup to determine the position of vehicles in Opter. GSGroup develops, among other things, tracking transmitters that can draw power from the vehicle’s own lights and do not therefore need a battery. More information is available on GSGroup’s website.

When the tracking transmitter has been installed on the vehicle and activated in Opter, the vehicle’s position, speed, direction of travel and altitude can be viewed on the map in dispatch.

Step 1: Activate the mobile device type Guard Systems

In order to configure the tracking transmitter in the vehicle directory, the device type must be activated if this has not already been done. It is deactivated by default.

  1. Click on Settings > Mobile data > Mobile device types.
  2. Click on Show > Show inactive.
  3. Select Guard Systems in the list and click on in the toolbar.

Guard Systems now appears in the table of mobile devices on the Mobile/web tab of the vehicle registry.

Step 2: Mobile data settings for communication with the devices

Three mobile data settings have to be added to enable Opter to communicate with the devices. The settings are not predefined but are entered manually. Contact GSGroup if you do not know your login credentials.

  • GuardSystems.Username: Username for the Guard Systems account.
  • GuardSystems.Password: Password for the Guard Systems account.
  • GuardSystems.Customer: Your GSGroup customer ID.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Click on Settings > Mobile data > Settings mobile data.
  2. Enter the above settings manually on each empty line in the Name column and the details in the Value column.
  3. Click on Save.

Step 3: Enter the unit’s ID for the vehicle in the vehicle registry

Contact GSGroup if you do not know the unit’s ID.

  1. Click on Register > Vehicles.
  2. Go to the Mobile/web tab and enter the ID in the Address column.
  3. Make sure the Active checkbox is selected.
  4. Click on to save all changes.
